2027 Honda Passport Trim Levels: Every Difference From RT-L to TrailSport Elite Blackout
The 2027 Honda Passport is sold in three trims, RT-L at $45,195, TrailSport at $49,995 and TrailSport Elite at $53,695, plus two factory versions: RT-L Towing, which adds a Class III hitch for $700, and Blackout, a $1,500 appearance package for both TrailSport trims. All six share the 280-hp 3.5-liter V6, 10-speed automatic, i-VTM4 all-wheel drive, 5,000-lb tow rating and Honda Sensing. The $4,800 jump to TrailSport is about capability: 9.6 inches of clearance, all-terrain tires, skid plates, recovery hooks, TrailWatch and a hitch. The $3,700 jump to TrailSport Elite is about comfort: perforated leather, ventilated and heated seats front and rear, Bose audio and a hands-free liftgate.
For Metro Detroit, the Passport trim question usually comes down to winter and weekends. Every trim has all-wheel drive and a Snow mode, so the RT-L handles I-696 in January just fine. The TrailSport earns its premium if you're towing to Lake St. Clair or heading to an ORV park up north.

The Trade-Offs of Moving Up a Trim
Upgrades come with a few trade-offs. Here they are, up front.
RT-L to TrailSport
- Leather. The RT-L's seats are leather-trimmed; the TrailSport's are HondaTex synthetic leather and cloth.
- A gray cabin. The TrailSport comes in black only; the RT-L offers black or gray.
- Mileage: 21 mpg combined drops to 20, and highway goes from 25 to 22 mpg.
- Headroom: 1.4 in. less up front (39.1 vs. 40.5 in.) and 1.1 in. less in back, with passenger volume falling from 119.1 to 115.4 cu ft.
- Departure angle: 25.3° on the TrailSport vs. 27.1° on the RT-L, even though approach angle and clearance improve.
- Height: 74.5 in. vs. 73.1 in., which matters with a roof box or a low garage.
- Tire speed rating: T-rated all-terrains (113T) instead of H-rated all-seasons (110H).
- Weight: 198 lbs more (4,676 vs. 4,478 lbs).
TrailSport to TrailSport Elite
- Orange ambient lighting gives way to white, though the steering wheel keeps orange stitching.
- The matte Shark Gray wheels are replaced by Berlina Black machine-face alloys.
- Curb weight rises 29 lbs to 4,705. Nothing functional goes away.
Standard to Blackout
- The standard wheel finish. Blackout wheels are black alloys on both TrailSport trims.
- $1,500, for appearance only. Capability and features don't change.
2027 Passport Pricing, Step by Step
From RT-L to TrailSport Elite Blackout is $10,000. The biggest single jump, $4,100, is RT-L Towing to TrailSport, where the off-road hardware arrives.
Which 2027 Passport Trim Is Right for You?
Five questions, one recommendation, and a link to matching inventory on our lot.
Five Passport Comparisons, Settled
RT-L vs. RT-L Towing
$700 buys the factory Class III hitch with harness and hitch panel. Both are rated for 5,000 lbs, but the rating assumes proper hitch equipment. Towing requires hitch equipment, and the Towing version has it from the factory. If you'll ever pull a trailer to Lake St. Clair or a campground, it's the simpler route.
RT-L Towing vs. TrailSport
$4,100 apart, and both have a factory hitch. The TrailSport adds clearance, all-terrain tires, skid plates and TrailWatch, plus a moonroof, heated wheel and 115-volt outlets. The RT-L Towing keeps leather, the gray interior option and better highway mileage.
TrailSport vs. TrailSport Elite
The $3,700 step is all comfort: ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, perforated leather, Bose audio, a hands-free liftgate and rain-sensing wipers. Off-road hardware is identical. If you sit in your Passport through a hot July around Roseville, the ventilated seats alone make the case.
TrailSport Blackout vs. TrailSport Elite
These are $2,200 apart, and they answer different questions: do you want the darker look (Blackout) or the nicer cabin (Elite)?
TrailSport Elite vs. Elite Blackout
The last $1,500 is cosmetic: black wheels, badges and skid garnishes on an otherwise identical TrailSport Elite.
What's New on the 2027 Passport
Higher TrailSport ride height
Honda reengineered the TrailSport suspension for 9.6 in. of ground clearance (8.3 in. on the RT-L) and better approach, breakover and departure angles.
New TrailSport look
More pronounced fender flares, a darker resculpted lower front fascia, a reshaped front skid plate and amber LED hood lights.
Elite features move down
The TrailSport now includes TrailWatch and a heated steering wheel, both previously reserved for the TrailSport Elite.
Blackout gets darker
The Blackout package adds black front and rear fascias to its black wheels and badges.
New paint
Smoke Blue Pearl replaces Obsidian Blue Pearl across the lineup.
Pricing
MSRP rises $245 on the RT-L, $1,345 on the TrailSport and $1,045 on the TrailSport Elite.
Standard on Every 2027 Passport
Even the $45,195 RT-L gets the full powertrain, the complete Honda Sensing suite and the same tech package as the TrailSport Elite.

How to Test-Drive a Passport in Macomb County
A test drive tells you more than any feature list, if you know what to look for.
- Fold the rear seat and load what you really carry. There's 44 cu ft behind the second row.
- Pair your phone and sign into Google built-in before you leave the lot so you're testing your own maps and music.
- Measure your garage door if you plan on a roof box. The TrailSport stands 74.5 in. tall before you add anything up top.
- Ask us to demo TrailWatch and the Multi-View Camera System in the lot. It's most useful nosing into a tight trailhead or a steep driveway.
- On a hot day, try the TrailSport Elite's ventilated seats against the TrailSport's HondaTex. It's the clearest way to judge that $3,700 step.
- Towing? Bring your trailer's plug type. The TrailSport hitch has a 7-pin connector; check whether you'll need an adapter.
- If you can, take both trims toward Lake Shore Drive along Lake St. Clair. Listen for the difference between the RT-L's all-season tires and the TrailSport's all-terrains.
- Merge onto I-94 or I-696 and feel how the V6 and 10-speed pull. Set adaptive cruise and let it follow traffic.
- Ride in the back of both trims. The TrailSport's moonroof trims rear headroom from 40.7 to 39.6 in.
2027 Passport Size: Will It Fit Your Life?
At 191.5 inches long the Passport fits a standard Macomb County garage or driveway, and the TrailSport's 74.5-inch height still clears a 7-foot garage door. Add a roof box or bike rack and you'll want to measure first.

Passport Trim Questions, Answered
What trims does the 2027 Honda Passport come in?
Three: RT-L, TrailSport and TrailSport Elite. Honda also sells an RT-L Towing with a factory hitch and Blackout versions of both TrailSport trims, for six configurations in all.
How much does the 2027 Honda Passport cost?
MSRP is $45,195 for the RT-L, $45,895 for the RT-L Towing, $49,995 for the TrailSport, $51,495 for the TrailSport Blackout, $53,695 for the TrailSport Elite and $55,195 for the TrailSport Elite Blackout. Add the $1,595 destination charge and $455 for premium paint colors.
Should I buy the Passport RT-L or the TrailSport?
Buy the RT-L if you stay on pavement and want leather, a gray interior option and the best mileage. Buy the TrailSport ($4,800 more) if you'll use 9.6 in. of clearance, all-terrain tires, skid plates, TrailWatch or the included hitch.
Is the TrailSport Elite worth it?
It's worth it if comfort matters. For $3,700 over the TrailSport you get perforated leather, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, Bose audio with 12 speakers, second-row climate controls, a hands-free liftgate, rain-sensing wipers and rear-door sunshades.
What does the RT-L Towing add?
A factory Class III trailer hitch with harness and hitch panel, for $700 over the RT-L. Nothing else changes.
Is the Passport Blackout just cosmetic?
Yes. For $1,500 you get black wheels, black Honda badges and black front and rear skid garnishes; features and capability match the non-Blackout trim.
Does every 2027 Passport have all-wheel drive?
Yes. i-VTM4 torque-vectoring AWD is standard, with Trail Torque Logic and seven modes: Normal, ECON, Sport, Snow, Tow, Trail and Sand.
How much can the 2027 Honda Passport tow?
Every 2027 Passport is rated to tow up to 5,000 lbs when properly equipped. The RT-L Towing, TrailSport and TrailSport Elite come with a factory Class III hitch. Premium fuel is recommended when towing more than 3,500 lbs.
What is HondaTex?
It's the durable synthetic leather Honda uses, with cloth, on the Passport TrailSport's seats. The RT-L uses leather-trimmed seats and the TrailSport Elite uses perforated leather.
Which 2027 Passport trim is best for Macomb County?
For paved drives like Lake Shore Drive along Lake St. Clair, any Passport works, and the RT-L's all-season tires and mileage suit them. For two-track and gravel roads up north, the TrailSport's clearance, all-terrain tires and skid plates are worth it. Permit areas like Holly Oaks ORV Park in Holly, which allows full-size 4x4s with a park ticket and DNR ORV stickers are where its skid plates and recovery hooks pay off.
How many seats does the 2027 Passport have?
Five, in two rows. The Passport has no third row; the Honda Pilot is the three-row option.
How much ground clearance does the 2027 Passport TrailSport have?
9.6 inches, versus 8.3 inches on the RT-L. Honda reengineered the TrailSport suspension for 2027.
Does the 2027 Passport need premium gas?
No. Regular unleaded is recommended. Honda does recommend premium fuel when towing more than 3,500 lbs. EPA ratings are 19/25/21 mpg (RT-L) and 18/22/20 (TrailSport trims).
What engine does the Passport TrailSport have?
The same engine as every Passport: a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 hp and 258 lb-ft, paired with a 10-speed automatic.
Does the 2027 Passport TrailSport have a heated steering wheel?
Yes, new for 2027. The TrailSport Elite has one too; the RT-L doesn't.
Which 2027 Passport has ventilated seats?
Only the TrailSport Elite, including the Elite Blackout. It also adds heated outboard rear seats.
Does every 2027 Passport have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto?
Yes. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with Google built-in, Alexa Built-in, a wireless phone charger and a 12.3-inch touchscreen.
What changed on the 2027 Passport?
TrailSport trims got a taller reengineered suspension (9.6 in. clearance), a new front fascia and amber hood lights; the TrailSport added TrailWatch and a heated wheel; Blackout added black fascias; and Smoke Blue Pearl replaced Obsidian Blue Pearl.
What is the 2027 Passport's cargo space?
44 cu ft behind the rear seat on every trim, and up to 104.6 cu ft (RT-L) or 104.4 cu ft (TrailSport trims) with it folded.
